Turing thought that they could. Moreover, he believed, it was possible to create software for a digital computer that enabled it to observe its environment and to learn new things, from playing chess to understanding and speaking a human language. And he thought machines eventually could develop the ability to do that on their own, without human guidance. "We may hope that machines will eventually compete with men in all purely intellectual fields," he predicted.

Nearly 70 years later, Turing's seemingly outlandish vision has become a reality. Artificial intelligence, commonly referred to as AI, gives machines the ability to learn from experience and perform cognitive tasks, the sort of stuff that once only the human brain seemed capable of doing.

AI is rapidly spreading throughout civilization, where it has the promise of doing everything from enabling autonomous vehicles to navigate the streets to making more accurate hurricane forecasts. On an everyday level, AI figures out what ads to show you on the web, and powers those friendly chatbots that pop up when you visit an e-commerce website to answer your questions and provide customer service. And AI-powered personal assistants in voice-activated smart home devices perform myriad tasks, from controlling our TVs and doorbells to answering trivia questions and helping us find our favorite songs.

Know more about the IT technician skills.

But we're just getting started with it. As AI technology grows more sophisticated and capable, it's expected to massively boost the world's economy, creating about $13 trillion worth of additional activity by 2030, according to a McKinsey Global Institute forecast.

Especially when you’re dealing with competitive assets or intellectual property, allowing outside contractors to access internal resources can be a sticky situation. And, even with internal employees—if someone leaves the company, how can you make sure they don’t make off with your assets?

Cloud-based storage solutions like Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, and others can provide a platform to store documents and materials, or you could set up a shared drive on your internal server and permit contractors to access only that folder. The key is to ensure someone is in charge of policing access privileges to make sure assets are secure.

With a work management platform, you can give contractors access to the projects, conversations, and assets they need, but keep other areas securely off-limits. If you need to tag a new team member in on a project or discussion, adding them is as simple as social-media style tagging.

At legendary guitar-maker Fender, Workfront provided the ideal solution to give creative team members access to the resources they needed and the ability to share final assets with requesters, retailers, and distributors. The end result: all the access they need, with none that they don’t.

DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol and is the protocol utilised to issue dynamic IP addresses to hosts on the network. DHCP servers are configured to distribute, manage and update IP addresses on the network based on a conversation with a DHCP client. The DHCP client issues a request to the DHCP server, if both client and server are on different subnets of the network then a DHCP relay agent is used.

The components required for a successful DHCP architecture include a DHCP client, DHCP server and DHCP relay agent (if existing on different subnets of the network). IP addresses are issued to DHCP clients via a standard client/server method, where the DHCP client initiates a request to the DHCP server. When we say client, we are talking about any network connected device that is able to communicate with the DHCP server. Most Windows operating systems are supported from 2000 upwards.

The method by which DHCP clients obtain an IP address from the server is to simply locate and start a conversation with the server on the network and request an IP address that, if successful, is issued by the server. If the DHCP server cannot be found by the client then an automatic private IP address can be assigned from Microsofts class B network (169.254.0.0). This IP address will be provided to the client only if there are no other clients on the network with this IP address. The DHCP client will test this on the network and accept the assigned IP address if this is the case. The DHCP client will then continue to beacon on the network for the DHCP server. If found, the DHCP client will drop their private address and be assigned an IP address by the DHCP server.

IT directors, sometimes called computer and information systems managers, are in high demand in nearly every industry. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, this profession is expected to expand by 11% between 2018 and 2028, which is much faster than the national average for all occupations. One reason this career field is growing so rapidly is that business leaders are looking to ramp up their investment in advanced computing technologies and third-party services. A 2019 study from the technology company Spiceworks, an information technology company, discovered that enterprise IT budgets are increasing as companies look to eliminate critical operational barriers, including outdated infrastructure (64%), lackluster cybersecurity practices (56%), and changes to longstanding regulatory guidelines (37%). For large organizations, this often means onboarding a wide variety of technology experts in overlapping roles.

Whereas smaller businesses may only hire a single director, enterprises often employ several professionals with different specializations. For example, IT directors with a long history of networking experience would likely spend most of their time improving internal communication systems and developing strategies to ensure seamless connectivity.

This staffing strategy allows computer science workers to pursue their own interests and leverage their subject matter expertise to the fullest. Depending on their organization, IT directors can expect to earn a median salary of $142,530, according to BLS data. That said, it’s important to remember that IT director is a high-level position that is typically filled by professionals with several years of experience and the right educational backgrounds.

As organizations have become increasingly concerned about the security of their networks, demand and salaries for network security professionals has skyrocketed.

A network security engineer might make between $97,000 to $163,000 annually, with a median salary of $115,000. These workers need to have an understanding of the fundamentals of both networking and information security, job postings indicate.

And because security technology changes so frequently, it is absolutely essential that they have recent relevant experience. Their responsibilities might include provisioning, deploying, configuring, managing, maintaining and troubleshooting network security hardware and software. They might also conduct risk assessments or penetration testing, as well as monitoring logs for signs of potential security breaches.

Another aspect of DHCP that's important to understand is that the protocol utilizes broadcasts from client to the server in order to find the DHCP server and initiate the request. But on very large networks with hundreds or thousands of different IP subnets, it would be impossible to maintain a DHCP server per subnet. This is where the concept of a DHCP relay agent comes into play.

Learn more: LAN protocols

A DHCP relay agent is a way for the network to listen to DHCP server discovery broadcast messages from client devices, convert broadcast requests into a unicast packet, and forward requests onto the DHCP server that's in a different part of the network. This centralizes the management of IP addresses on your network.

There are plenty of other parts of DHCP that network engineers need to understand, which are beyond the scope of this primer. Understanding DHCP is a key part of a network engineer’s toolset that's likely to come in handy on a daily basis.

What’s DHCP? And why it’s recommended to use it? Imagine that you’re working as a SysAdmin for a large company with 500 desktop computers; you need to set to each desktop computer IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS servers, and other network settings. How could you do that?

If you’ll try to perform this task manually you’re probably going to waste a lot of time on sitting on each computer 5-10 minutes, beside time, you can for example accidentally enter wrong IP address to few clients, or to type the same IP address to few clients too.

In order to solve these “problems” you can use Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (or DHCP) in your network.

DHCP allows you to manage the networks’ IP addresses scopes and other TCP/IP settings like DNS, Default Gateway, etc. from central place, this central place called DHCP server. Beside the management, if there’s any problem you don’t need to run between your clients, you just need to connect to your server and to check the DHCP settings, as I mentioned – the DHCP works from central place, so if there’s a problem, it’s probably from the server, so you know where to go in case of problem and your saving time.

The DHCP server can provide easily IP addresses to clients automatically so you don’t even need to configure and set options in the client side, all you need is to setup DHCP server, configure scope options and some other TCP/IP settings in the server side and that’s it. You can provide to your clients IP addresses from the selected range that you’ve configured and some other TCP/IP options.

Ink tank printers are ideal for those who print a lot on a daily basis. If you’re the type of user who only prints once a week, this might not be for you. But if you’re frustrated with having to replace ink cartridges weekly, ink tanks are the way to go.

How to Save on Ink Refills
Inkjet printers, ink tank or not, use a lot of ink. Just when you think it’ll be awhile before you have to refill a color, the empty light flashes. To cut down costs on ink refills, check out aftermarket alternatives. They provide the same print results at a lower price. Here’s a table that shows the price comparison of the two. The disparity is glaringly obvious when you look at the cost per page of each cartridge. The cost per page is the more efficient way to measure how cost-effective an ink cartridge is.

The lower the CPP (cost per page), the better.

How to get the Cost per Page
Calculating the cost per page (CPP) differs for black ink cartridges and color cartridges.

For black cartridges, simply take the price of the cartridge and divide by the expected page yield.

For color cartridges, you divide the price per cartridge by the page yield and multiply it by the number of color cartridges used by your printer and add the CPP of the black. You can learn more about this calculation here.

Since aftermarket cartridges are typically cheaper in price, the CPP will almost always be lower.

We compare the cost per page of original brand ink with aftermarket alternatives on a table under each recommended ink tank printer below.

This is the first port-of-call for most Computer Science majors if they are not sure what they want to do. IT jobs are typically categorized under groupings like IT Hardware and Networking or Hardware, Services, Security, and Infrastructure. For those who don’t know what they want to do with their computer science degree, it is the perfect place to start because they get exposure to a wide range of specialties.

Unless you know you want to be a developer, this is the best career path to take if you want to be an IT professional. You don’t have to make an immediate decision about what you want to do. You can take a few years in the professional world to find out what you enjoy and learn what positions are not right for you. This gives you the experience you need to branch out into the more specialized areas of IT, so that it is a seamless transition.

Career Strategies
With multiple entry-points, the career path in IT Hardware and Networking is relatively broad, similar to saying that you want to be a lawyer. Just as you have to determine what kind of law you want to practice, you have to determine what kind of IT professional you want to be. Most people on this career path are not looking to be managers, although any one of the following positions can lead to that position, ultimately.

The one thing to note is that those entering the IT Hardware and Networking field are almost always required to have a BS in computers. There are certifications that can help a person advance, but those certifications are rarely adequate to help a person get a position in the field. However, the upside is that successful applicants do not need a lot of experience, which is a requirement for each of the specialist fields associated with this career path.
